Alternatives to Violence (AVP)

Taking the Necessary Steps for Success

Alternatives to Violence focuses on empowering people to lead more nonviolent lives.

AVP is "Alternatives to Violence Project," a program working to reduce violence by learning about relationships, communication, and conflict resolution through workshops in prisons, jails, and the community. AVP California is volunteer-run, non-profit, organized by local councils around the state, and part of AVP USA and AVP International. AVP has a 45 year history in over 60 countries in prisons, refugee camps, schools, in times of peace and extreme conflict.

There are 3 stages: in Basic one participates in experiential workshop focusing on personal skills for conflict resolution, in Advanced participants delve deeper into personal issues and applying Transforming Power, and in the third- Training for Facilitators, one learns how to apply previous teachings to be able to facilitate these lessons for other groups. There is a registration fee, which may be $50 to $150, depending on the participant's financial abilities.
